Emotional MVP Speech Will Make Kevin Durant Your Favorite NBA Player

Oklahoma City Thunder scoring machine Kevin Durant won his first NBA MVP award on Tuesday. But his humble, emotional acceptance speech in front of fans and teammates outshone anything he did on the court all season.

Durant has long been known as one of the true good guys in sports a quiet, humble and down-to-earth athlete who steers clear of scandal and egomaniacal tirades in favor of volunteering around Oklahoma City and being an all-around (if understated) mensch.

In short, he's been extremely hard not to root for since entering the NBA in 2007. But after Tuesday's speech, he's impossible not to root for.

CBS Sports' Matt Moore was kind enough to upload Durant's speech to YouTube in several installments. Durant talks about his roots, fights back sobs, pays homage to Oklahoma City fans, thanks teammates individually and in the most poignant moment of all tearfully calls his ever-supportive mom "the real MVP."

It's some seriously touching stuff, and we've embedded highlight below. For the full speech, you can visit CBS Sports or NBA.com.

'You're the real MVP'
Durant thanks his family, including a special tribute to his mother, Wanda.

'I have my bad days'
Durant fights back tears while thanking teammates including co-star Russell Westbrook

If every pro athlete was like Kevin Durant, the world would be a better place.
